College and University Dialogue May 1, 2019

Designed for Seventh-day Adventist university students and young professionals, College and University Dialogue is published by the Committee on Adventist Ministry to College and University Students (AMiCUS) in cooperation with the 13 world divisions of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and in partnership with Public Campus Ministries (PCM). Volume 30, Number 3 (2018) is now available online. In his editorial titled The Call to Serve, Gary Blanchard discusses young people who are giving a year to missions. He then reminds each of us to reach out to others from where we are right now. Additional articles include:

When Death Was Not Yet: The Testimony of Biblical Creation by Jacques Doukhan
“The biblical view of death is essentially different from the one proposed by evolution. While the belief in evolution implies that death is inextricably intertwined with life and therefore has to be accepted and eventually managed, the biblical teaching of creation implies that death is an absurdity to be feared and rejected.”

What Adventists Have to Share with the Scientific Community by Ben Clausen
“Only if Christians can be trusted in areas scientists know, will they be trusted in areas scientists don’t know.”

Politics in the Church: The Moral Management of Power by Lowell Cooper
“The urgent need is for church members and leaders to know how to use politics ethically and wisely; to avoid the intentional or accidental misuse of politics; and to ensure that political processes result in good for the whole church.”

Is Religion a Cause for Violence? by Raúl Esperante
“Seldom does a religion teach the use of violence to carry out its message, although some extreme proponents of a religion may indulge in violence as a means of its propagation or justification. We, as Christians, must be the first to acknowledge that.”

Love: Living Life with the Power of the Indwelling Presence of God by Aleksandar Santrac
“The biblical concept of love is not merely a moral mandate, an interpersonal expression of the deepest emotion, or the highest virtue or fulfillment of all God’s commandments as a sign of belonging to a morally and doctrinally pristine community of faith. It is the presence of God’s revelation that creates the image of Christ Jesus in the lives of those accept Him.”

Rosana Alves: Dialogue with a Brazilian-Born Adventist Neuroscientist by Julián Melgosa
Read how a talented neuroscientist finds opportunities within her profession to reach out to others.
